Wedding plans
Shortly after we met my partner and I knew we were going to get married. In a sense, we’re “unofficially” engaged. We often say to each other “I’m going to marry you” and “let’s get married” but an engagement as never been set in stone. I’m hinting at my partner when we get jewelry catelogues in the mail, and he almost got me an engagement ring when he was in Singapore last year but was short of money for what he wanted.
We’ve planned to get married October 2011.
I had begun to plan our wedding for Sydney, as I thought we would be living here for years to come. Now that we’re moving to Geelong, I’ve had to replan everything. So now, I’ve got the excel spreadsheet all set up with possible venues, prices and how many people they’re allocated for. I’ve made a list of the people we’ll invite, mostly family (with my cousins, their partners and kids, plus aunts, uncles and grandparents, my side alone is around 40 people) as my partner and I don’t have a very big group of friends. I’m not sure whether to invite my Sydney friends, it all depends on how strongly we keep in touch.
I know where I’m going to get my dress, what colour I want (not white) and I know that it wont cost more than $200-250. We can either ask our fathers to be the photographers or I might ask a girl I went to highschool with who’s now a professional wedding photographer in the Geelong area.
We want a small reception, so I’m going to either convince my mother to have it in her back yard, or even ask my brother as his house is very beautiful, and he’s the king of the barbeque.
I’ve got it all planned. Then again, I began planning my wedding when I was twenty.
Job Interview
I almost didn’t apply for the job.
Today I received a phone call from a potential employer wanting to organise a job interview. It’s a fair way out, it’s not until January 12 next year, but I wrote on my cover letter that that’s when I’m moving so employers knew what they were getting into.
So I have my very first interview in the Aged Care sector!
The company who I wont name, are a nation wide personal care agency, who help residents live independently at home. The role is as a Personal Care Assistant (as opposed to an Assistant in Nursing as I’ve been trained) and will consist of me going to clients homes and helping them shower, clean the house, take them out (I think) and what have you.
I’m very excited over this. As soon as I hung up I phoned my partner immediately and he brought me back down to earth, ruining my hype.
In order to be considered for this role, I need to have the following:
- Current Police Check (tick)
- Birth Certificate (tick)
- Car Registration (tick)
- Immunisation card (tick)
- Full drivers licence (tick)
- Copy of my comprehensive car insurance…
I’ve got third party. Let me explain. Growing up in Geelong, I was under the impression that third party insurance for everyone in Australia was as cheap as it was for me, $160. And then I moved to Sydney. My third party insurance was in excess of $400, with my partners in excess of $600 because he got third party, fire and theft. For me to get comprehensive insurance here in Sydney, we’re looking at in excess of $1200. If I got comprehensive with my current insurer, because I’ve lodged a claim recently, it will be in excess of $1200 even in Geelong. If I go with the insurer my mother is with, it’s only in excess of $400. So I’m changing insurers, and my mother has said she’ll pay it as my partner and my christmas present from her. I don’t think she was expecting that I would have to change insurers.
Neither did we.
But in all, that’s not going to ruin my hype. My mother is so excited over this job interview, it’s ridiculous. Even on facebook, my friends have all said congratulations, one even said “that was quick!” but hey, she’s not looking til after christmas. I had to email her a copy of my resume and cover letter just so she knew what to do. But then, she is only seventeen and working in aged care will be her first real job outside of the take-away food industry.
Naturally I told my mother as soon as I hung up from speaking to my partner. She wanted to know all the details, and kept saying “I’ve got such a good feeling about this!” because she was the one who let me know of the job advertised.
This is what I’ve been placed on this earth to do, work in the aged care sector. I’ve always felt comfortable talking to the elderly, even when I was younger with my grandparents neighbours.
I have a good feeling about this job. If they’re willing to wait over a month to interview me, they’re either desperate or think I have what it takes to be a staff member of their facility.
I’m Big Kev excited!
Packing
I’ve been packing and cleaning today. We’ve told our estate agent that we’re leaving, and I have to make sure the house is looking nice for when people eventually come for an inspection.
Cleaning and packing in 35C weather isn’t the best of ideas!
We’re using my partner’s nan’s old Avon boxes to pack, and we’re allowed 15 boxes (including 4 tubs, one of which may end up going in my car). 5 boxes are full of DVDs, one of CDs, one of Lego…and there’s still more CDs/DVDs to pack! We have nine boxes so far, and with only allowing for 2 more we’re a wee bit…um…stuffed LOL We didn’t expect to have 5 boxes of DVDs, we thought three at the most.
We’re not sure how we’re going to go fitting the rest of what we’re taking in our cars. My partner has sooooooo many clothes and shoes, he’s worse than a female! We’ll get it done…hopefully!
I’m contemplating, if we don’t think we can fit it all in our cars…ask my father to help us. But, that would require him driving 950kms just to get here, then drive 959kms back. Maybe not. If only my partner had gotten his towbar fitted to his car when he wanted it. It would help so much in the next few weeks.
